What is a flexible learning college?

A flexible learning college is one that utlises ICT in education to produce more effective student to teacher ratios. This is particuarly important for smaller schools running to Year 12 as well as for 'boutique' colleges like St Augustine's. Following a personalised learning plan with subjects integrated into an elearning environment enables tutorials to run at multiple levels extending subject choice and respect for different learning styles.

This model of learning enables the smaller classes at St Augustine's to run in a cost-effective manner providing the best of tutorial style learning with choice and enhanced ICT literacy. The timetable in a flexible learning school is noticeably efficient with student and tutor time focussed on actual learning rather than contact hours.

Students at St Augustine's do not study formally on Fridays and the Monday to Thursday programme finishes at 1.20pm. Consequently parents and students spend more time together; complementing the College ethos of parent directed education. Although study at St Augustine's means some sacrifice from parents it also enables a lifestyle which is increasingly attractive to parents looking for a quality education that is genuinely counter-cultural.
